The lion, the witch and Manhattan

No idea how these ducks survived the freezing water
No idea how these ducks survived the freezing water

After hearing of the freezing ice storm that hit New York City a few days before our trip, my mom and I had no idea what exactly was in store for us when we boarded our morning flight to JFK last Wednesday. After all, we Californians are quite spoiled in the winter — in fact so pampered with good weather this season that the state is currently suffering from a crippling drought.

...seriously, 60+ degrees in February is not normal.

But all of our worries were for naught, as our 6-day getaway to the Big Apple was just what the doctor ordered for our warm-weather-wariness.   Actually, I wasn't sure if we were really in Manhattan or if we were accidentally flown to the mythical land of Narnia.

As a Californian, I know that might sound hard to believe with our unbelievable sunshine-y days, so I'll just let a few of my vacation snapshots speak for themselves.
